About Us

The Free Clinic of Southwest Washington (FCSW) provides free, basic, walk-in health care, together with dental, vision and specialty care. The FCSW was started 19 years ago by Dr. Sam Beall who saw a real need in the community to help those who could not afford basic medical care. Through the work of Dr. Beall and other physicians and community leaders such as Dr. Otis Burris, Dr. Susan Davis, Mari Greves and hundreds of others who help us to get where we are today, we are now the largest free clinic in the state. In 2007, it was estimated that 40,000 people in Southwest Washington were without health care coverage. From June 2008 to July 2009 volunteer physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, lab technicians, pharmacists, hygienists and other volunteers donated over 18,000 hours to help these patients. Our services prevent unnecessary emergency room visits, keep people from missing work, and keep children healthy and able to stay in school.
Through the volunteer services of 531 professionals, we are able to provide significant health care through each dollar donated to the Free Clinic of Southwest Washington, thus multiplying your contribution many times over. We are 98% community-funded and receive very little government funding to remain independent and avoid any limitations on the services we are able to provide.
